Skip & Play — manual video controls for Safari on macOS

Write for anything — a question, a bug, a refund query, a site where it does not work. Include your macOS version, your Safari version and what you expected to happen. A real person reads it, usually within two working days.

Skip & Play needs macOS 13 or later and Safari. It is published by LEGAL-NAME.

Setting it up

Safari never switches an extension on by itself. This is a one-time step.

Open Skip & Play from your Applications folder.
Click Open Safari Extension Settings in the app window.
In Safari, go to Settings → Extensions and turn on Skip & Play.
Open a page with a video and click the Skip & Play icon in the Safari toolbar.
Allow access when Safari asks.

The app window shows whether the extension is currently enabled in Safari, so you can always check where you are.

The controls

Key	What it does
`S`	Sends the current video to its exact end
`P`	Picture in Picture on and off
`D`	Slower, in steps of 0.25×, down to 0.25×
`F`	Faster, in steps of 0.25×, up to 3×

All four can be reassigned in Customize shortcuts. One key, or one modifier plus one key. Two commands cannot share a binding, and shortcuts stay quiet while you are typing in a text field.

Common questions

I press the key and nothing happens

In most cases the page has not been granted access yet. Click the Skip & Play icon in the Safari toolbar while that page is open and allow access. If the panel says no video was found, the page may be playing video in a way the extension cannot reach — write to us with the address and we will look.

Safari warned me that the extension can read the pages I visit

That warning appears for every extension that can change how a page behaves. It describes what the technology allows, not what we do. Skip & Play collects nothing and sends nothing anywhere — details in the privacy policy.

Skip does nothing on a live stream

That is deliberate. A live stream has no end to jump to, so the app refuses the action rather than guessing at a position.

Does changing speed pause the video?

No. The picture keeps running. No pause, no black frame, no jump back to the start.

Can I use it outside Safari?

This app is for Safari on macOS.

How do I remove it?

Turn the extension off in Safari's Extensions settings, or delete the app. Your shortcuts and speed preference are stored on your Mac and go with it.

Reporting a bug

The three things that make a report actionable:

the address of the page where it happened;
which key you pressed and what happened instead;
your macOS and Safari versions.
